Current and Future Development of Electric Train Essay

Current and Future Development of Electric Train - Essay Example The electric trains were easier to run and cleaner since they did not rely on coal as the source of power. The new electric train was mainly used in Boston, Chicago, and New York. The electric train was shown at an international trade exhibition in 1879 in Berlin (Feedburner 2007). It was long before the electric train was used to carry passengers. The main advantages of the electric train are that there is no pollution and less noise. The other advantages are that electrification results in higher performance, lower energy costs, and reduced maintenance costs. The electric trains are quite as compared to the diesel trains and thus they produce less mechanical noise. The electrical trains also move easily on the tracks thus contributing to the reduced maintenance costs of the tracks (Duffy and Michael 2003). The current state of electric trains in Japan has been one of the major countries which have played a big role in the history and the development of electric trains, especially i n the 20th and 21st century. It is the country which has pioneered railway technologies in the whole world. Currently, Japan has been able to build faster, more accurate and safer mass transportation systems earlier than any other country in the whole world. ...There has been the computerization of the equipment which is used for train traction systems. This has contributed to the improvement of reliability, simplification of maintenance and saving labor. Train management systems have been introduced and this has accelerated the management of information for the whole train system. Current electric trains use an induction motor as the main driving motor and improved AC for circuit semiconductor. The current train also uses VWF inverter as their main control unit. The achievements have promised and proved to be more reliable and cost-effective in the running of the electric train. The current electric train uses JRIS transmission system which has made it realize world standard transm ission protocol. Due to this fact, the current train has higher reliability system and also a higher speed. Today, there is the use of the air compressor unit and the air conditioning equipment which are both electronically controlled. The conditioning equipment particularly has been transformed into a cooling unit that is easily controlled in accordance with the preferred for every power supply. This has improved service quality and comfort to passengers on trains. The current speed of an electric train ranges from 200 to 581km/hr. The current train also uses the circuit simulator. This is an advancement of the microcomputer control features. The stimulator has improved the design verification technology. This advancement has been made as result of the former simulator having limited condition settings in terms of time and labor. There has also been the introduction of the high-speed processor which stimulates the main circuit and the load. The current stimulator uses the frequency of 50/60-Hz.

Support the Provision of Environment and How My Work Environment Is Organised to Promote the Development of Children Essay Example for Free

Support the Provision of Environment and How My Work Environment Is Organised to Promote the Development of Children Essay Support the provision of environment and how my work environment is organised to promote the development of children The physical and emotional environment we create for children at Wattville primary school has a huge impact on their development. The environment is stimulating and attractive as children learn though their senses they need the environment to be interesting and visually attractive. There are also different types of activities and play opportunities; the layout of the classroom is well planned and organised and there is a variety of equipment which meets individual needs. Outside the classroom, along the corridor there are pegs for the children to hang up their coats, hats and scarves, these are personalised with each child’s name helping to promote children’s intellectual development as they learn to recognise their name and location of their peg. Inside the classroom, near the door there is a table with trays on it for children to put their water bottles in, this allows children to gain easy access to a source of drinking water throughout the day as they need to stay hydrated in order to concentrate and take part in activities. The book corner is situated on the left hand side as soon as you enter the classroom, away from other activities to minimise disruption to children who want to use the area. There is a desk and chairs for children who wish to sit and read there and this area is also used for one to one reading sessions. There is also a soft seating area with pillows and cuddly toys so that children can relax while enjoying their book. There are a variety of books for the children of all abilities and cultures to enjoy. The book corner helps to promote children’s language development and fine motor skills development. It also supports their social and emotional development as they sit with friends sharing stories and at times playing ‘being the teacher’ where they pretend to be the teacher reading the story to the children using facial expressions and changing the tone of their voice. At the maths area there are bright, colourful equipment set out including shape sorters and abacuses. This area supports children’s mathematical development as well as their language and fine motor skill development. The computer area consists of one computer and a printer, this develops children’s fine motor skills as they learn to move and click the mouse during different computer based activities. Children’s social and emotional skills are also encouraged as they learn to share and take turns. The writing area is set up with a variety of writing resources including; white boards, papers, pencils, felt tips etc. This area is set up to promote children’s communication, language and literacy as well as their creative development as they use their imaginations e. g. to create lists or write stories. The creative area is situated at the back of the class room where it is not carpeted so that any spillage can be cleaned up easily. There are a variety of resources which include; coloured paper/card, materials such as foam and foil, scissors, glue, paint etc. This area promotes children’s fine motor skill development and also supports their language development as they begin to ask questions and talk about things that they are creating. The sand and water play is also located at the back of the classroom on suitable flooring away from books, tables and chairs to minimise mess and ensure children’s safety. Water and sand play helps children’s fine motor skills and also supports social development as children play and interact with their friends and peers. The tables and chairs are set out in a way which allows children to move around the classroom with ease. There are a number of colourful and attractive displays containing the children’s work around the classroom. There is also a behaviour chart and reward charts displayed in the classroom, this helps children’s emotional development as they feel valued and it also encourages their confidence and self-esteem.

The Effects of the Internet on the Future Essay example -- Technology

The Effects of the Internet on the Future If every action has an opposite and equal reaction, then a huge branch-like system connecting information and people scattered into an abyss of nothing encompassed in a piece of desktop hardware and Glorified as "the Web", would actually be the opposite and equal reaction to the brain that sits and stares into it. Sure the Internet's soul purpose is to feed us but it feeds us whatever we want. Never again will we have to doubt our selves, instead of saying "I'll bet on it" you can say "hold on a sec." Gun Control Laws

Guns are extremely powerful weapons. They can cause destruction, harm or even death. They can be used to defend and protect or threaten and kill. Any way you look at it, guns are powerful tools not only physically but socially. As college students it is important to stay abreast of the current events and issues circulating our country today, one of which is the controversial issue of gun control. It is extremely important to pay attention to where gun control laws are headed. The directions they take not only affect our nation and society but our future as well as we all move to communities and begin to rise. One of the most controversial issues in our society is gun control legislation. Violence associated with guns is increasing every year and something must be done to stop it. Gun legislation varies in every state in some states gun policy is stricter than in other states. Gun legislation should be abolished in favor of federal gun legislation. To examine the issue with gun violenc e today we must understand the gun laws that are in effect. The gun legislation in the United States is mostly based on a state level. One federal law for example prohibits the manufacture of all plastic guns. The federal government tightly restricts fully automatic guns. Most manufactures stamp serial numbers for law purposes. The government also has regulation on importation on guns brought into the country. Also, most states restrict the purchasing of long guns the age of 18 and 21 for the purchase of hand guns. Most states prohibit the purchase of guns if you are; a convicted felon, alcoholic, drug addict and mentally ill person, alien, or a fugitive from justice. Some laws required prospective gun buyers, to get a purchase permit which comes with applicant posing background checks.A few states even require that all persons possessing guns must have license to do so, even in their homes. Some states do not ban guns from addicts this is a problem. At in the course of the crime eit her by the police or by the victim. The likelihood of social disapproval could be a negative factor. It has been known that one half of every household has at least one gun. If you restrict a victim‘s options on limiting households guns, crime could rise highly. This new policy on gun control should help lead our nation in the right direction. The massacre at the empire state building was an example of how our gun control legislation must be changed. The new federal gun legislation will provide equality among all states. Criminals will not have the option of buying a gun in a state with weak gun legislation. This new policy on gun legislation will cut down on violence dramatically. The issue of guns and gun control takes on a proportion of extreme magnitude. Weighting the rights and liberties of the individuals against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act.In the United States, gun control sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Tho se parties in favor of gun ownership and the provision for such rights are in the constitution. In this climate of growing violence, rife with turmoil and crime, gun advocates feel more than ever that their position is justified. As citizens of the â€Å"Land of the free†. Possessing a gun is a fundamental right and may even be a necessity. Anti –gun lobbyists point to the same growing violence and gun related crimes in effort. The political approach on gun control deals with the issue of laws and political organization that surround the debate. The government is where the critical laws are made concerning gun control, which in turn affects the entire country. And therefore is important to look at as a key player in the debate. There are two major sides or parties in the political arena that are lobbying either for or against gun control. These two would of course be the Democrats and the Republicans, the two dominating parties in the country today. The republicans have long been supporters of the pro-gun movement, largely due to both their conservative nature as well as an increased backing over the years by the National Rifle Association, a powerful force in the pro-gun movement. During the elections the NRA gave 92% of its congressional campaign contributions the republicans giving the party ample ammo to promote their cause. Democrats are known to be largely for gun control but as public support has waned , in part due to an increase in gun sales the 9/11 attacks so has the Democrats enthusiasms to bring the issue. This is an important question to everyone involved in the issue and extremely important to society as a whole. Guns play a role in everyone‘s lives to some degree, whether it be your own possession of hunting rifle, or a pistol in the hands of a youth in your neighborhood we as Americans values our rights to freedoms granted to us by our forefathers , which includes the possession of firearms as stated in the second amendment. A s citizens we must ask ourselves, do we really want gun control laws which are created to protect us, to take away our basic rights as citizens? Gun Control Laws

How Does Hosseini Tell the Story in Chapter 17? Essay

Chapter 17 is potentially the most important chapter in the novel for structuring the shape of the narrative and may be seen as the turning point in the novel. During this chapter, Amir is handed a letter by Hassan writing about his son Sohrab and how life in Kabul has changed dramatically since he and Baba fled to America. Rahim Khan explains how Hassan and Farzana were killed by the Taliban and as his dying wish, Amir must go and rescue Sohrab. It is revealed that Baba is Hassan’s father, making him and Amir half brothers. Hosseini uses 3 different narrative voices in chapter 17 opposed to other chapters with just Amir narrating. This gives us a much more personal perspective into Hassan’s life, adds realism to the narrative and how corrupt Kabul has now become. ‘†¦suddenly a young Talib ran over and hit her on the thighs with his wooden stick’, contrasting hugely with Amir and Hassan’s childhood. Amir’s usual retrospective first person narrative is present however Hosseini also uses the present tense to make Hassan’s death more emotive as we can imagine it more vividly as a reader. ‘Hassan slumps to the asphalt, his life of unrequited loyalty drifting from him like the windblown kites he used to chase. ’ Not only is this quote used so we can see Hassan dying but it links the whole novel together by using the recurring motif of kites, linking back to chapter 7 when he ‘chased’ the blue kite, and his ‘unrequited loyalty’ is evident throughout the majority of the novel, ‘Hassan never denied me anything’. Although Hassan’s death is foreshadowed however in chapter 16, ‘God help the Hazaras now’, Hosseini creates suspense and dramatic tension towards Hassan’s death by giving Amir the letter first before revealing his death, giving Amir hope and making the reader assume his journey to redemption would soon be over. ‘I dream that someday you will return to Kabul and re-visit the land of our childhood. If you do, you will find an old faithful friend waiting for you. ’ This quote again creates a more dramatic and emotive response to Hassan’s death both from the reader and Amir after Hassan’s optimistic and promising letter. Hassan’s death is instrumental in shaping the narrative of the novel and is arguably the turning point as it forces Amir to seek his redemption and debt to Hassan to Sohrab. The reason Amir came to visit Pakistan in the first place was to apologise to Hassan and being the only person alive and able, ‘Now everyone in that photo was either dead or dying. Except for me’, Amir was the only one left to save Sohrab from the Taliban and Assef. Another key event in the chapter is the unveiling of Hassan’s true father, Baba. Amir reacts badly to the news and Hosseini portrays this using Westernised language to contrast with Rahim Khan’s traditional language. His anger is emphasised through the repetition of ‘you goddamn bastards’. This contrasts with the earlier chapters in the novel where Amir always speaks to Rahim Khan politely and with respect and could represent the influence America has had on him. Finding out that Hassan and he were half-brothers also makes his decision to save Sohrab even more crucial and makes the reader more anxious to see whether or not he will betray Hassan again or redeem himself. His decision to save Sohrab is foreshadowed in chapter 14 when General Tahiri says ‘blood is a powerful thing, bachem, never forget that’ suggesting that the bond of blood and brotherhood is so strong, Amir must save Sohrab, his own blood relative in order to fully complete his journey to redemption and atone for his sins.
